Deprecation Day?
The abrupt finale of my DJ career…😳🎧
Well, folks, life can be a trip when it decides to hand you lemons in the form of forced independence? As we grew to know each other through shared interactions and built an audience, we all felt we were starting to find ourselves through our budding friendships and talents. But nope, like the last piece of cake at a party, all good things must end. That’s the harsh reality of our beloved Amp App, which became less of an app and more of a community for us creators for the past year and a half.
It’s like losing your favorite houseplant. You’ve nurtured it, talked to it (don’t deny it; we all do it), and hoped it would outlive at least one of those short-lived TV shows we binge-watch. Only for the developers to drop a bombshell on October 4th, it would be lights out by the end of the month. And just like that, our sanctuary of spontaneous inside jokes, creative collaborations, and a thriving community took an unexpected bow.
The countdown to D-day — ”Deprecation Day,” as we fondly dubbed it — was like being in a tragicomedy. One moment, you’re soaked in disbelief; the next, clutching at straws of hope that it’s an elaborate prank. While some bowed out early, throwing heartfelt farewells, many of us clung on, like white on rice, until the end.
The salutations started pouring in, as bitter-sweet as a whiskey-infused chocolate, as we braced ourselves to move on. Some of us even decided to go out with a bang, doing live sessions on the last day to mark the end of our journey in the Amp streets.
And then, at 7:17 pm Central Standard Time, it was curtains down. Those who stayed till the last act were ushered out. And we all found ourselves on the wrong side of the “Welcome” sign, being greeted by good ol’ deprecation. Ah, the sweet sorrow of parting! Now, who’s got the tissues?
